DeFlock SLO is an independent community campaign about automated license plate readers in San Luis Obispo County.

Review access and security

Public pages are served by Cloudflare. The reviewer and owner analytics area requires owner-only Cloudflare Access authentication. Cloudflare may set necessary security cookies, which are not analytics identifiers. No public shared-password reviewer login is offered. Cloudflare may separately process network information to deliver and protect the website.

Visit counts

When enabled, our site counts page loads by UTC date, page, preview or public mode, and broad source category such as search, social, or a campaign link. Campaign links can also identify an approved publication or platform and campaign label, such as a newspaper launch or reviewer invitation. Only predefined campaign labels are accepted; arbitrary tracking values are discarded. We also keep separate daily totals by broad device type and approximate country when the hosting service supplies it. We do not infer age, gender, interests, or individual demographic profiles. These are page views, not unique visitors. Our counting table does not contain IP addresses, login cookies, full referrer URLs, query strings, or browser fingerprints. Aggregate counts are available to the site owner in the Access-protected analytics area. We skip counting when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, and exclude recognizable bots and prefetched pages. Counts older than 90 days are cleared when new counted traffic arrives. A small same-origin request reports only the page, broad source category and any recognized campaign labels. For homepage visits, our server may also send a page-only event to a separate analytics service we operate; that event does not include the visitor IP address, browser cookie, or full referrer. Blocking that request prevents our page-load count; we do not work around browser privacy protections. Hosting providers may separately process technical request logs, run browser security checks, and set necessary security cookies to operate and protect the service.

Aggregate interaction counts

When enabled, we also count map interactions, signup-link clicks, and council-participation information clicks. We store only predefined action labels, placement on the page, and the selected public city label where applicable, grouped by UTC date and public or preview mode. A last-received timestamp helps the owner see whether collection is active. We do not collect typed form values, email addresses, map coordinates, full clicked URLs, or persistent visitor identifiers for these counts. Counts are limited per page load and are not unique-person or completed-subscription counts. The same Do Not Track, Global Privacy Control and bot exclusions apply. Interaction counts older than 90 days are removed when new counted interactions arrive.

What we collect and why

If you choose to subscribe, the hosted Brevo form receives your email address and required consent choice directly. We use the address to send public-records findings, campaign news, and opportunities to participate in local meetings. The form sends a welcome email after submission; it does not require an email-verification click. We do not ask for your city, home address, or phone number.

The previous site signup stored historical subscriber statuses, consent metadata, and keyed abuse-prevention records in the site database. We retain those records for careful reconciliation and to honor opt-outs. New submissions through the hosted form are kept by Brevo and are not automatically copied into the Cloudflare database. A historical pending record is not treated as an active subscriber.

Services involved

Brevo hosts the embedded signup form and processes the address, consent choice, welcome email, delivery, and unsubscribe requests. Loading the form may share technical browser and network information with Brevo. Email messages may contain provider-hosted links or images that allow Brevo to process delivery, link-click, or open events; these are separate from the website’s aggregate visit counts. Cloudflare Turnstile helps protect the form from automated abuse and processes technical browser and network information. Cloudflare processes technical information needed to deliver and secure the site. The interactive map loads map styles and tiles from OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap contributors. Those providers receive technical request information such as your IP address, browser information and request timing when the map loads. Site fonts are hosted with this website and do not contact Google Fonts.

We do not sell the subscriber list, publish subscriber addresses, or use them for advertising audience uploads. Messages you send us and documents you share may contain additional personal information; please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive details.

Unsubscribe or request deletion

Use the unsubscribe link in campaign emails, or email privacy@deflockslo.com to unsubscribe or request deletion. Subscription information is kept while you are subscribed. Limited suppression, consent, security, or delivery records may remain where needed to honor your opt-out, prevent abuse, or meet applicable obligations.

Public records are different

Correspondence sent to public agencies may itself become a public record. Newsletter subscriptions are not sent to agencies. We aim to remove unnecessary personal information from records we publish.
